Hello and good morning from ATHENS! After 15 hours of traveling, we can’t believe we’re finally here. Long story short, we originally had an hour layover in London (LHR) on the way to Athens (ATH), but because of some flight delays in between, our travel day was much longer than anticipated. The craziest part of it all is that I have been in 3 different time zones since I left. I couldn’t even tell you what time of day it is and I honestly feel like I’ve been awake for 3 days straight, but it’s all so worth it (she says with nervous laughter).
When we initially booked the trip, we didn’t have the option for a direct flight on the way there. But after the whirlwind of unexpected delayed flights, oh and nearly losing our luggage during the transfer, I laughed as Cody swore he would never settle for a transfer flight again. I on the other hand, really enjoyed the chance to visit London, even if it was only for a couple of hours within the four walls of the Airport. I definitely need to come back here! I also found it was the perfect opportunity to stretch, grab some healthy food (Heathrow Airport has amazing restaurants and cafes) and to reset before the next flight to Athens.
Side Note: For those of you who are wondering, I’ve been absolutely loving the products I mentioned in my previous post What’s In My Carry On? I’ve been using the elixir spray and rose pedal eye masks religiously during my travels and they’ve both been amazing at refreshing and hydrating my skin.
We arrived in Athens around 11:00 pm Greece time, which was much later than we hoped. We had originally planned to explore the city of Athens before leaving for Mykonos the following day, but after a long travel day, we were honestly just so excited to get some sleep! We chose to rent a hostel in Athens since it was more affordable and we were only looking for a place to crash the night before we left for the islands. As someone who is new to hostel bunking, I quickly learned that it definitely isn’t the most luxurious but in the end, I am so happy with our decision to stay here. If you’re curious for more details about the place we’re staying at, feel free to leave me a comment in the box below!
We got what felt like not even close to enough sleep considering we had to be up early the next morning to catch the Blue Star Ferry to Mykonos, but luckily we had the adrenaline to keep us going (we are completely jet lagged being 7 hours ahead!) An early departure also meant that we got to watch the sunrise from the deck of the ferry with our much-needed coffees, which was incredible.
Side Note: The ferry was massive with excellent service and accommodations – we definitely recommend taking Blue Star!
Five hours and a couple of journal entries later, we arrived in MYKONOS! Stay tuned for my next post to read all about it.
