Greece Travel Series Intro: What’s In My Carry On?

April 28, 2017

I am still in shock that I’m only 3 days away from embarking on my lifetime dream of traveling to Greece. It feels like just yesterday that we finally decided to book the trip, and now here I am 3 months later, desperately trying to check off all my packing lists with little time to spare.

To add to this excitement, I have decided to introduce a “Greece Travel Series” which will be located under the travel tab on my blog. Given that this will be my first time overseas, or going on any trip of this kind actually, I figured this was the perfect way to document all of our favorite memories from the trip (including photos, outfits, hot spots etc.) as well as a way to keep in touch with you guys – if you’re interested of course!

As most of you already know, I will be alongside an experienced traveler who just so happens to be my boyfriend on this amazing adventure! After much research and planning, Cody and I have decided to cover Athens, Mykonos, and Santorini in our travels. Ahhh, even just typing it out still sounds so incredible and surreal.

Since I obviously don’t have any overly exciting photos or travel stories to share with you YET, I thought I’d use this first Greece Travel Series entry to share what I will be bringing with me in my carry-on bag. Maybe it’s just me, but I love learning about what other people’s necessities are when it comes to traveling, and I often use them as guidance or inspiration when I’m packing for my own trip. So not only did I want to do the same for you, but this also happens to work perfectly as a checklist for myself (even though I’m notorious for forgetting at least one thing). Let’s begin!

Carry-On Essentials

Boarding Pass & Passport:

I know these may seem like obvious items, but when you’re caught up in the excitement of packing or throwing together outfits for the trip, you’d be surprised at how easily they are forgotten! I like to keep these two essentials along with my wallet in a separate and safe compartment of my carry-on. I also make sure they’re easily accessible to avoid any last minute digging to the bottom of my bag at the airport.

Phone, iPad & Charger:

Luckily the charger for both my iPad and phone are the same, so it saves me having to bring two separate ones on the trip. Obviously, I won’t be able to use my phone on the plane, but I prefer to keep it with me so that I can keep track of it just in case. This is a long haul flight, so I am looking forward to taking full advantage of this time to work on my blog. I have also pre-downloaded a bunch of my Netflix favs using the new Download and Go feature. Both of these things are typically done on my iPad.

Camera & Charger:

I am so excited to be bringing my new camera with me on this trip! Like my phone, I prefer to keep it on me just in case, and it’s more convenient if I want to take photos at the airport or on the plane.

Reading Glasses/Sunglasses:

Another easy item to forget when you’re on the plane is sunglasses, especially when your flight is at night like ours. The last thing I want is to land in Athens where it’s hot and sunny without a pair, so I will make sure to put them in my carry-on bag.

Book:

Having something to read is another great way to pass the flight time, which will be close to 12 hours (cringing at the thought of it). I’m bringing Mindy Kaling’s book “Why Not Me” and I am beyond excited to finally read it. For those of you who watch The Mindy Project (if you don’t, I highly suggested you do) I feel like I’m going to be reading the book with her voice narrating it – making it that much funnier. Know what I mean?

Headphones:

Because … well ya. Although most people have suggested bringing both earbuds and bigger headphones, I have a pair of wireless earbud headphones that I am obsessed with because they’re both convenient and noise canceling. Win win!

Socks:

To stay cozy and warm at all times!

Saje “Travel Safe” Kit:

This is my absolute favorite kit! I originally got it for Christmas as a cute little “stocking stuffer” but ended up getting a ton of use out of it. As I was packing, I realized it would be the perfect addition to my carry on. It includes a bunch of essentials such as oils, creams, and cleansers to keep my skin refreshed and hydrated on the flight. Shop Here

Caudalie Beauty Elixir & Rosewater Eye Mask:

Since this is a long haul flight, I don’t plan on wearing any makeup and thought it would be a good opportunity to give my skin a bit of a “detox”.

  • The Caudalie Beauty Elixir is a spray made up of natural ingredients (lemon balm, rosemary, peppermint, rose and grape) and is ideal for toning and tightening pores.  Shop Here
  • The Rosewater Eye masks are placed directly under the eye contour and work to reduce any dark circles and puffiness. According to the package, I will achieve a “brighter and more revitalized” look. This will be my first time trying both of these products, so I will be sure to update you with my honest feedback!  Shop Here

Healthy Snacks:

The best part, am I right? I have prepared a bunch of healthy snacks for Cody and I to bring on the flight, most of which I’ve already ate (oops). I wanted to do this in advance to avoid being stuck without any food and having to make any unhealthy choice while I’m there. I decided to bring/make:

Bring:

  • Simple Protein Bar Shop Here
  • Siete Grain Free Tortilla Chips (super delicious) Shop Here

Make:

  • “Cheezy” almond flour crackers
  • Roasted chickpeas
  • Lots of cut up veggies & hummus
  • Cashew coconut carrot cake energy bites (say that 5 times fast)

Pür Gum:

A staple piece for the plane to avoid popped ear drums and bad breath! I love the pür brand in the flavor “cool mint”.

Journal & Pen:

I have a serious attachment to my journal and I love to write in it any chance I get. Whether it’s brainstorming creative content or simply jotting down things that I’m grateful for, I find every bit of it very comforting and calming. Having a pen also comes in handy in case you have to sign any flight documents on the plane.

Sleeping Mask & Ear Plugs:

Reduce any noise and to help me sleep during the flight (fingers crossed).

Lip Chap

Empty Water Bottle

The key here is EMPTY. To avoid being totally embarrassed at customs, I’m going to wait to fill up my water bottle before boarding the plane.

So there you have it, my carry-on essentials. As I mentioned earlier, there is probably something I am forgetting but for the most part, this is the list that I will be checking off as I pack. I hoped you found this enjoyable and helpful to read and I will see you in my next Greece Series post!
